Original Victorian/Edwardian Cotton Nightgown
I purchased a wooden box at an estate sale a few years ago and it was full of vintage clothing, primarily cotton nightgowns and slips, some items had slips of paper with hand written notes, this is 1 of 6 nightgowns that lay beneath a note that reads "Mary Elizabeth Crain, Grandma Crains nightgowns about 1885", the date maybe an estimate because there were also gowns with an attached note that mentions her wedding Apr 10, 1884. This is in lovely condition, the neckline is hand crocheted and has an inlaid pink ribbon. I found no stains, holes or open seams, layed flat on the floor and measuring underarm to underarm it is approximately 21".
