This is a rare late 1860s post Civil War hat in good condition.There is a photo of a similar bonnet from Susan Langley's book "Hats & Bonnets 1770 - 1970".It is a fancy woven straw oval "Pork Pie" bonnet trimmed in a purple velvet band and purple velvet rosette on the front. Also on the front of the bonnet is a spray of blue chenille loops on wires.It is lined in cotton and a paper with the numbers 6, 7, and 8.The paper looks like an insect nibbled it (photo). The straw is in great condition - not cracked or dry.There is a tiny bit of wear on the bottom of the velvet band. Measurements:head opening..........20"top..........7" x 6"height......2 1/2" I have described this item to the best of my ability - if you have any questions please ask me before bidding.
