This lovely black silk faille capelet was the height of fashion in the late 19th century. It has a two inch high standing collar trimmed with a two-layer pleated collar of soft black chiffon-like silk. The body is covered with jet-black bead trimmed scrolling braid work. It is interlined with a dark crinoline like material to give it a fashionably crisp shape. It fastens at the throat with two hooks and eyes.
Condition: The outside fabric is strong and in good condition, but the lining has been mostly removed, leaving only the facings and hem. There is a small area of slight discoloration to brown on the collar at the back of the neck.
Measurements: Neck: 15.5 inches (39 cm), Center back length: 18 inches (45.5 cm), Hem Circumference: 100 inches (254 cm)
